Install Mozilla Firefox portable on Linux

Installing an instance of Mozilla Firefox portable on Linux is pretty simple but this action could reserve you some trouble if you have to do it manually every time. Because of this i created a very simple script which does the dirty job and can create a portable installation of this the browser. Supported Firefox versions, at the moment, are:

Mozilla Firefox standard (lastest release)
Mozilla Firefox ESR (latest release)

Here what you have to do:

download build-firefox-portable-0.2
unzip the file where you want (i suggest /tmp)
delete build-firefox-portable-0.1.zip
go into the chosen directory (see second step)
inside a terminal execute
- bash build-firefox-portable.sh (to get Mozilla Firefox standard)
- bash build-firefox-portable.sh esr (to get Mozilla Firefox ESR)

The script will download the software and will generate a new directory containing your portable instance:

if you have chosen the standard release you get the new directory /tmp/firefox-portable
if you haev chosen the ESR release you get the new directory /tmp/firefox-esr-portable

If you already have installed plugin IcedTea for your non-portable Mozilla Firefox the script will recognize it, adding it to the portable instance.

Slackware: Linux Container "CentOS"

Se avete bisgono, come il sottoscritto, di creare un ambiente CentOS all'interno della vostra Slackware e volete usare le funzionalità messe a dispozione dai "Linux Containers" ecco una possibile soluzione ai vostri problemi.

Preparazione

(ri)configurate il vostro kernel in modo che l'output di lxc-checkconfig dia "enabled" su tutte le voci e che sia abilitato il supporto di rete per i "bridge"
aggiornate il pacchetto rpm con quello presente qui
installate il pacchetto yum presente qui
assicuratevi di aver installato il pacchetto lxc presente nei repository slackware
assicuratevi di aver installato il pacchetto bridge-utils presente nei repository Slackware
assicuratevi di avere abbastanza spazio su disco (nel mio test ho avuto visogno di circa 400MB)
aggiungere al file /etc/rc.d/rc.local le seguenti linee /usr/sbin/brctl addbr br0 /usr/sbin/brctl br0 10.0.0.1/24 /usr/sbin/iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -s 10.0.0.100 -o eth0 -j MASQUERADE /sbin/sysctl net.ipv4.ip_forward=1
